Learning Objective

- Recognise behavioural signs that may indicate underlying pain in dogs and cats
- Understand how pain can influence emotional state and behaviour
- Identify common medical conditions associated with behaviour change
- Integrate pain assessment into behavioural case evaluation
- Recognise when further diagnostic investigation or multimodal pain management is indicated

Dr Francesca Guagiumli DVM MSc (CAB) CCAB MRCVS
Francesca graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from Università degli Studi di Milano before furthering her expertise with a Master’s degree in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Lincoln, where she graduated with a distinction.
With a strong foundation in veterinary medicine, animal behaviour and dog training. Currently, Francesca is undertaking a Residency in Behavioural Medicine alongside a PhD. Her main research focus lies in the complex relationship between pain and behaviour, and the development of innovative tools to aid in the diagnosis of pain and discomfort in animals.
Francesca is a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist and a proud member of the Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians (FABC), and is committed to the highest standards of evidence-based behavioural care.
